Is crocheting worth learning?

Crocheting is a type of craft that you preform with your hands, a hook, and some yarn. When crocheting you can create multiple things such as washcloths, hot pads, blankets,headbands, and scarves. Sounds pretty cool, but is it worth learning? I would most definitely say yes. 
I recently began to learn how to crochet and I was very hesitant at first. It looked difficult, and I have never been too good at this kind of stuff. If you are anything like me and struggle with sewing or any types of crafts, you will be pleasantly surprised with crocheting.  It is difficult at first when figuring out how to hold the string and the hook but once you get the basics down the rest come fairly easy. So why should you learn how to crochet? Well here is a list why:
  • Makes awesome gifts: nothing beats a homemade gift, and when you learn how to crochet you can make a gift for almost any occasion. Hot pads and washcloths for a wedding present, scarfs, and hats for Christmas or birthdays, and many more things you could learn how to make with crocheting to give for gifts. 
  • Saves money: Everyone likes to save a little money. Crocheting will save you money from buying gifts for people, and also buying yourself blankets, hats, scarves, washcloths,etc. 
  • Relaxing: crocheting is a good way to unwind after a long day. Sitting down to crochet and watch some TV is very relaxing. 
I hope this blog has opened your eyes to the benefits of crocheting, and I would recommend crocheting to anyone looking for a side hobby. 

Side note: My crocheting for this week I finished up my scarf and just have a few final touches to add. Next week I will be starting on my headband. I am a little off track from my original plan, but I am hoping that I can get back on track with the long weekend next week!

    That scarf looks cute! I’ve never considered crocheting, but it sounds like a fun hobby I could pick up. Good luck with your headband!

Well this week's crocheting has been pretty productive. I have started on the scarf and I have completed almost three rows. It's going to take a while to complete the scarf because it is so long and takes a while to complete one row, especially because I am using a different sized hook that makes tighter/smaller stitches. I've lost patience a couple times with this new hook, because it's easier to skip a stitch without noticing, which causes it to have a hole so then I have to go back and fix it. It has forced me to be more patient and less critical of myself. Overall I've really enjoyed crocheting so far, and I think it's going to be a super useful tool for the future. It makes really good gifts and could save me some money in the future. I've also found it kind of relaxing, and fun to do while watching TV.

G.H. 1.3

This week I have only accomplished half of my goal. I had planned to have a vibrato down my the end of this week, but learning a vibrato was a lot harder then I thought it was going to be. When using a vibrato your wrist and fingers have to master a certain motion, but your fingers have to stay in the same place. I sort of have the motion, but I struggle to move fast enough to where it sounds like a vibrato. I will probably go to YouTube and see if there are more techniques that could make the motion little easier. The other part of my goal was to be able to play some simple music. In the video is one of the songs I played. It's a little rough, but it is getting better. My dad told me that I am a little more bearable to listen to compared to a couple weeks ago, so I guess that's progress. G.H. 2.5

This week's Genius Hour went well. I am a little behind on my weekly goal, but I'm hoping that I can catch up this weekend. I was supposed to be done with the scarf this week, but I have a couple more rows I  need to add. I wish I could crochet a little faster, but it's a little difficult with the smaller hook. I really like the way it is looking though. It's nice and tight, which is good because then it is more likely to last longer and be warmer. The plan was to start on crocheting my headband this next week, but that might have to be pushed back a little so I can finish up my scarf. My mom also told me that the headbands don't take as long, so I should be okay to finish everything on schedule, since I scheduled a little extra time for the headband. I've really enjoyed crocheting. I like to just sit down and crochet while watching TV. It helps me feel like I'm doing something and not just being lazy.
